Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell this week welcomed senior pupils from Langholm Academy to the House of Commons as part of their school trip to London. Mr Mundell took time out of his schedule to talk to the group in one of the committee rooms and was impressed by their interest in politics, particularly the forthcoming Independence Referendum. Mr Mundell also explained his role as a local MP and took questions on a wide range of topics. He is always keen to welcome constituents to Parliament, not only to gain an insight into how it works but also to admire the Palace of Westminster itself.
Mr Mundell commented: “Welcoming young people to Westminster is one of the highlights of being a local MP. It was great to take some time out of my busy schedule to talk to the pupils.
“I was greatly encouraged by their enthusiasm for politics and their local community. All too often young people get portrayed negatively but Langholm Academy and the young people themselves can take great credit in the way they represented the town on this trip.
“I hope they enjoyed their trip and the chance to see London, especially this year ahead of the Olympics. As ever I encourage anyone locally who is planning a trip to London to get in touch with my office to arrange a tour of the parliament.”
